What do you see in the fire?

There stands the enemy I was told to love,

The foreigner who called God by another name,

The one whose love for another I refused to accept,

The other standing in the flames as I watch from outside.

What you do you see in the fire?

There stands one full of pride and certainty,

Alone in the flames by his own choosing,

Terrified of what death might reveal,

A smile from those who have already passed through.

What do you see in the fire?

A sacrifice of who I thought I was,

An eternal love that sees only light,

Illusions of separation burned like chaff,
